The President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych signed instruction on enforcement of laws on freedom of expression and avoidance of interference with the professional activities of journalists, the President’s press service informs.

According to the press service, the purpose of the order is to ensure compliance with the law on freedom of speech and to prevent interference with the professional activities of journalists.

As noted in the document, interior minister Vitaly Zakharchenko is ordered to ensure a prompt response to the violation of laws on freedom of expression and the protection of the rights of journalists in Ukraine; Pshonka is proposed to strengthen the supervision of the observance of laws on freedom of expression and the protection of the rights of journalists in Ukraine.

According to the order, the security chiefs must until the 10th of each month inform the President about the execution of the order, Ukrinform reports.

The interdepartmental working group on the review of compliance with the legislation on freedom of expression and protection of the rights of journalists (IWG) was established and operates in accordance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated July 6, 2011 No. 226 under the Open Dialogue initiative.
