Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has stressed the need to strengthen cooperation with Russia and deepen bilateral relations, he stated in a letter of congratulations to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of the Russia Day, which was posted on the official website of the head of state on Wednesday.
"Over the last few years we have managed to achieve practical results in many areas of cooperation. I am confident that our countries have the necessary potential to further deepen bilateral ties. It is extremely important not to rest on our laurels and continue our effective and joint work aimed at strengthening comprehensive cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of Ukraine and Russia," Yanukovych said.
The President also said that Russia had traditionally been a key strategic partner for Ukraine and wished the people of Russia peace, happiness and prosperity.
