President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych met with relatives of twice Hero of the Soviet Union, pilot-cosmonaut Heorhiy Berehovyi, ForUm learned from the President’s press service.
President stressed the importance of honoring the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. Yanukovych noted that Ukraine is making every effort to perpetuate the memory of the heroism of the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War. "We are doing a lot for the younger generation to remember the immortal feats. He will live in the memory of future generations," the President stressed.
"In my opinion, this memory should and will live forever," he added.
The President also thanked brother of Heorhiy, Mykhailo Berehovyi for courage and heroism he showed in heavy fighting. "You, as a participant in this war, stood terrible ordeals. God bless you health," Yanukovych said.
The meeting was also attended by son of Heorhiy, Viktor Berehovyi, daughter Lyudmyla, nephews Viktor and Iryna. This morning, they laid flowers to the monument to the famous pilot on the Walk of Military Glory in Kyiv.
