Ukraine wants to deepen cooperation with China in the military and technical sector, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych stated.

“Ukraine sees China as one of its most important partners in the field of military and military-technical cooperation, and is ready to comprehensively deepen these promising areas of cooperation,” he said on Thursday at a meeting with Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China Xu Qilian.

Yanukovych said that the development of strategic relations with China remains a priority in Ukraine’s foreign policy, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

“We want the further intensification of political contacts with China at all levels,” he said.

He said that a reliable foundation for the successful development of Ukrainian-Chinese relations is mutual respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the two states.

“The development of trade and economic cooperation is a key part of Ukrainian-Chinese relations,” Yanukovych said.

He said that the work of the intergovernmental commission on bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and China and a number of sectoral sub-committees is an important factor in the intensification of trade and economic relations between the two countries.

Xu Qilian, in turn, noted that Ukraine attaches great importance to the development of its strategic partnership with China.

He expressed hope that his visit to Ukraine would help further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
