Criminal proceedings in connection with the beating of a correspondent of Channel 5 Olha Snitsarchuk in Kyiv on Saturday, May 18, have been launched under two articles and a pre-trial investigation has started.

The press service of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine reported on Sunday, May 19, that the investigative department of Shevchenkivsky District Police Office opened a criminal case under part 1 of article 125 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on intentional infliction of slight bodily injury and Article 171 on obstruction of legal professional activity of journalists, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

The police are carrying out a range of immediate investigatory actions in order to identify people involved in this crime and punish them.

Earlier, at around 2.20 pm on May 18, a scuffle occurred between participants of rallies on Velyka Zhytomyrska Street. Young men threw bottles with water and stones at each other. Several people were injured in the scuffle.

Meanwhile, Channel 5 reported that its journalist and a photographer of the Kommersant publication were injured in the incident.

On the same day, the police opened a criminal case under article 125 of the Criminal Code on intentional infliction of slight bodily injury.
