The United Kingdom has reaffirmed its support for Ukraine’s reform efforts aimed at signing the Association Agreement with the European Union, a joint statement on the results of a meeting between Ukrainian foreign minister Leonid Kozhara and UK foreign secretary William Hague reads.

“We agreed that the political association and economic integration of Ukraine with the EU will offer significant opportunities for both the EU and Ukraine, and make an important contribution to the prosperity and security of their citizens,” reads the document posted on the web site of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on Monday.

The meeting was attended by members of the House of Lords and House of Commons of the British Parliament, representatives of multi-party Parliamentary Group of friendship with Ukraine and British-Ukrainian society.

Kozhara informed the British Parliament about the progress of Ukraine in the implementation of recommendations of the European Council on Foreign Relations from December 10, 2012.

“The UK continues to believe strongly that Ukraine belongs to the European family of states. In that context, we talked about how the UK might support Ukraine’s reform efforts, in particular how to strengthen Ukraine’s judicial and legislative institutions in line with European values and practices,” reads the statement.

The sides also stated that they “looked forward to working together to make the 3rd Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius a success.”

Kozhara and Hague met on Monday, May 13, as part of the Ukrainian minister’s visit to the UK.
