Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has warned against the excessive politicization of recommendations that were given to Ukraine by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

He said this at a meeting with the co-rapporteurs of the PACE Monitoring Committee, Marietta de Pourbaix-Lundin and Mailis Reps, on Monday, a UKRINFORM correspondent reported.

"We give due regard to the recommendations of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. At the same time, it's fundamentally important that these recommendations be not politicized and that they be implemented according to the law," he said.

He said that Ukraine was working hard on the implementation of the Council of Europe's action plan until 2014. He said that the Ukrainian side was cooperating with Council of Europe experts in a working order.

The president said that the commitments that Ukraine assumed when joining the Council of Europe would be gradually implemented. He also added that this work was common to all branches of government and was under his personal control. "The plan, which we're implementing, is a real tool for resolving urgent problems that concern bringing Ukraine closer to democratic standards," Yanukovych said.

A co-rapporteur of the Monitoring Committee, Reps, in turn, said she was satisfied that almost nobody throws into question the European direction of Ukraine's policy.
