The Constitutional Court of Ukraine plans to begin consideration of the petition of 48 MPs on local elections in Kyiv on April 11.

"Previously the decision was made - the issue is on the agenda. The consideration is expected to be held in form of a written hearing," the Court press service informs.

Production of 48 MPs on elections in Kyiv was submitted to the Constitutional Court on March 19. The MPs ask the CCU to give official interpretation of the provisions of the Article 136, the Part 3 of the Article 141 of the Constitution of Ukraine, the paragraph 1 of the Article 14 of the law of Ukraine on the election of deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, local councils and village, town and city mayors".

The opposition believes that the next elections should be held in the capital in summer, as the term of office of elected deputies and the mayor shall be five years (special elections of Kyiv City Council members and the Kyiv mayor were held at the end of May, 2008).
