Incumbent Filip Vujanovic has won the presidential election in the tiny Balkan nation of Montenegro.
The President of the election commission Ivan Kalezic said that Mr. Vujanovic won more than 51 percent of the vote, while the opposition candidate Miodrag Lekic garnered just less than 49 percent in the Sunday vote.
Before the results were announced on Monday, both candidates claimed victory in the tight race.
The position of President is mainly ceremonial with real power held by the Prime Minister.
The governing coalition has been in charge of Montenegro since the breakup of Yugoslavia in the 1990s. Montenegro proclaimed independence in 2006.
The mountainous state is fighting high unemployment and corruption as it makes its case to join the European Union.
