Flood in Ukraine will not be catastrophic, head of the State Emergency Service Mykhailo Bolotskikh said at the Cabinet’s meeting, ForUm correspondent reports.
According to him, Volyn, Lviv, Zakarpattya and Ternopil regions are the most difficult in this issue.
He also stressed that taking into account considerable snow reserves in Kyiv and Kyiv region, the likelihood of flooding increases in low lying territories of the city. But these territories will be protected with a balanced regulation of water levels in the Dnieper cascade.
There is also a problem of outdated drainage and sewage systems in major cities. But the situation in Kyiv is not as critical as in Odesa.
Bolotskikh also informed about the creation of free volume of water during the peak period of spring water passage.
In addition, he said that Ukraine works with Russia and Belarus on the issue of reservoir operation during the snowmelt.
