A state of emergency is declared in Kyiv due to a snow collapse, Kyiv City State Administration said in a statement on Saturday.

"Within 24 hours, 50 mm of snow have fallen in Kyiv (with the monthly rate of 47 mm), which is half a meter of snow cover. Due to the deterioration of weather conditions (heavy snowfall, snowstorm, drifts) a state of emergency is declared in the capital," the statement said, UKRINFORM reports.

Deputy chairman of Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Mazurchak instructed all public services to mobilize and provide around-the-clock removal of snow from the approaches to the subway stations, underground passage stairs, entrances to hospitals, as well as approaches to the shops.

"All the available snow-removal vehicles of Kyivavtodor and districts are now working in Kyiv, including 15 armored personnel vehicles (BTR), which were provided by the Defense Ministry to remove trucks from the streets. We are doing everything possible to stabilize the situation," Mazurchak stressed.
