The Ukraine's Constitutional Court (CC) received a production of 48 MPs on the interpretation of certain provisions of the Constitution and the law on local elections regarding local elections in Kyiv, the CC press service informs.

In late May 2008, the extraordinary City Council and mayor elections were held.

MPs asked the Court for an official interpretation of the second part of the Article 136, the Part 3 of the Article 141 of the Constitution of Ukraine, the Part 2 of the Paragraph 1 of the Article 14 of the law of Ukraine on the election of deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, local councils and village, town and city mayors.

Part 3 of the Article 141 of the Constitution stipulates that the term of office of members of local councils and village, town and city mayors elected at the next election shall be for five years.

According to the Paragraph 1 of the Part 2 of the Article 14 of the law on local elections, regular elections of deputies of local councils and village, town and city mayors shall be held simultaneously on the territory of Ukraine, except as expressly provided by law.

According to the CC regulations, the production is submitted to the secretariat of the Court for consideration.
