Cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union in the issue on modernization of the Ukrainian gas transit system has been put in practice, FM spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reported.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the first credit tranche is expected to be allocated within the project implementation on modernization of the Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhgorod pipeline through the International Financial Institutions in the near future.

In addition, the Ukrainian side expects the continuation of negotiations on this issue at the upcoming meetings of specialists and experts in the field of energy.

"During the EU-Ukraine summit the agreement was reached between our state and the European Union, and the seventh joint report was signed on the implementation of the memorandum on cooperation in the energy sphere. According to this agreement, in the near future Ukraine and the EU will start working on possible participation of the EU in the process of modernization of our GTS. We look forward to continuing negotiations on this issue," the diplomat concluded.
