The European Union is ready to continue to provide financial support for Ukraine to ensure its independence in the energy sector, EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule said at a meeting with Ukrainian parliamentarians in Kyiv on Thursday, UKRINFORM reports.
"We intend to continue to support Ukraine financially in facing the historical challenge of developing its own resources, enhancing its energy independency and better integrating world standards and market conditions," Fule noted.
He said that the EU appreciates the changes that Ukraine has made in dramatically revising its energy policy.
Fule also said that the modernization of the Ukrainian gas transit system and the reforms of the gas sector in the country remains a high priority in bilateral cooperation.
