Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite signed a road map for the development of strategic partnership between Ukraine and the Republic of Lithuania for 2013-2014, the president's press office said in a statement on Wednesday, Ukrinform reports.

The instrument highlights specific tasks of Ukrainian-Lithuanian cooperation in the political, economic, trade, investment, transport, energy and cultural areas, in international and regional security, including within the existing institutional mechanisms for bilateral cooperation, as well as important for Ukraine provisions in the context of achieving European integration.

In particular, the roadmap provides in 2013-2014 focused activities aimed at deepening cooperation between the parties on the above areas, filling the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the Republic of Lithuania for the next two years with specific content.

Additionally, the sides concluded a protocol of the sixth meeting of the Council of Presidents of Ukraine and the Republic of Lithuania, which reflects the main agreements reached. The document confirms the position on the strategic nature of bilateral relations between Ukraine and Lithuania, the desire to continue active cooperation in all priority areas of both bilateral cooperation and pressing issues of international and regional politics.

The document praises the parties' road map of strategic partnership between Ukraine and the Republic of Lithuania implemented in 2011-2012, as well as the objectives set forth in a protocol of the fifth meeting of the Council of Presidents. The protocol stresses the need to continue active and consistent cooperation between Ukraine and Lithuania to achieve the goal of European integration of Ukraine.

Particular attention is paid to the issue of cooperation in the economic sector. The efforts of the two countries should be aimed at improving the trade and investment environment, ensuring the effective functioning of the existing institutional mechanisms for cooperation, maintaining effective cooperation in the field of energy and energy security, improving the efficiency of combined transport train Viking.

The protocol also defines the practical issues of bilateral cooperation in international and regional security policy, cooperation within international and regional organizations.
