Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has instructed Deputy Prime Minister Kostiantyn Hryshchenko to take personal control of preparations for the celebration of anniversaries in 2013, Ukrinform reports.
"I'm instructing Deputy Prime Minister Kostiantyn Hryshchenko to take personal control of preparations for the celebration of anniversaries and to report to the government on the course of such preparations," Azarov said.
He recalled that this year Ukraine will mark the 1,025th anniversary of the Christianization of Kyiv Rus. "This is an important date for the historical memory of our people and for the awareness of our historical place in the European civilization. The government should organize preparations for the celebration of this important date at the highest level," Azarov said.
The prime minister noted that on March 12 Ukraine will mark the 150th birthday of outstanding scientist and first President of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences Volodymyr Vernadsky. "Ukraine should mark this anniversary as an event of global significance. The government will soon hear a report by the organizing committee on this event," Azarov said.
The head of government also added that on December 6 Ukraine will mark the 100th birthday of Ukrainian surgeon Mykola Amosov.
