Control over illegal taxi drivers will be tightened in Ukraine, head of the State Service for Ground Transport Safety Control Bohdan Svishchovsky told a press conference "Reorganization and reform of the taxi market in Ukraine", ForUm correspondent reports.

"The government instructed us to ensure passenger safety. The law (on amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine on state regulation and safety management of transport and roads - Ed.), which entered into force on January 5, enables us to more tightly regulate the taxi services," he said.

Svishchovsky noted that systematic raids will be conducted regularly from now on.

In addition, the law provides for administrative and administrative and economical fines. "Earlier, we were not able to fine the carrier, who was not an economic entity. We could not bring him to such liability, without sending a letter to the prosecutor, the Interior Ministry. The new law gives us the ability to analyze and make decisions not only on business entities, but also on the driver of a vehicle, who violates the laws of the taxi service market," Svishchovsky said.

In turn, chairman of the Taxi drivers trade union Vasyl Popik said that the new law gives the public organizations the right to bring discipline to the taxi market.
