The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine postponed the introduction of mandatory requirement for importing drugs to grant the certificates of production compliance with international GMP (good manufacturing practice) standards until February 15.

The corresponding decision was taken at the meeting chaired by deputy Prime Minister Kostyantyn Hryshchenko, the press office of the deputy Prime Minister reported.

The government planned to introduce the mandatory provision of certificates from January 1, 2013.

According to the press service, this decision will give the importers time to obtain the required certificates and the State Service for Drugs time to inspect the medications and to avoid the counterfeit and substandard products.

According to Hryshchenko, the introduction of certification requirements from January 1 could lead to a shortage of vital medicines.
