"Cereals are traditional Ukrainian food rich in fiber, minerals and vitamins, although in recent years there has been a decrease in the share of cereals in the diet of our citizens. However, the production of cereals can not only satisfy the domestic demand, but also increase exports. Thus, in January-October 2012, domestic enterprises produced 239.5 thousand tons of grain, which is almost 2% higher than over the same period last year," acting minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk said.
According to him, there were produced 50.5 thousand tons of buckwheat, 29.4 thousand tons of rice and 11.7 thousand tons of wheat cereals. Prysiazhniuk also noted the active dynamics of cereals export this year.
"For 10 months of 2012, Ukraine exported nearly 30 thousand tons of cereals worth $12.2 million. This year's most serious buyers have been Russian Federation, who has bought 15 thousand tons, Belarus - 3.9 thousand tons, Moldova - 3.2 thousand tons and Azerbaijan - 1.3 thousand tons," Prisyazhnyuk added.
