Acting Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov regrets that the EU does not express a sufficient activity in the modernization of the Ukrainian gas industry, he said before the Cabinet’s meeting, ForUm correspondent reports.

"Ukraine does not start building the gas industry from the scratch. We have our own developments and personnel. It is necessary to improve the technology, procure and develop new and more modern equipments. This is the first thing we should take from Europe," he said.

The acting Prime Minister added that "unfortunately, the EU has not yet expressed its interest in the modernization of the Ukrainian gas industry. For the second year we are a member of the European Energy Charter and perform our obligations," he added.

Azarov noted that experts almost unanimously recognize the Ukrainian gas transmission network to be the cheapest and most reliable route for the transportation of Russian gas to Europe.
