In Ukraine, girls aged from 15 to 17 have less abortions, deputy head of the Maternal and Child Health department of the Healthcare Ministry of Ukraine Valentyna Kolomeichuk told a conference conducted by the Institute of Demography and Social Studies, ForUm correspondent reports.
"We note a positive trend of increasing a number of deliveries among young girls ... But unfortunately nearly 100 girls under 14 have abortions every year. But it should not be at all," she said.
According to her, in 2011, 84 girls under the age of 14 had abortions, and 122 girls decided to give birth.
"This is an outrageous situation. I think that all structures must work on this issue. And family planning issues should be actively applied by working with this age category," Kolomeichuk noted.
In addition, according to her, in 2011, girls aged from 15 to 17 had more than two thousand abortions, and seven thousand chose to give birth.
Kolomeichuk also noted that now there is a sharp decline in a number of abortions among young girls in general, but this trend stays the same among girls of 14-16 years old.
