German chancellor Angela Merkel said that currently there are no preconditions for the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.

At the same time, the Chancellor did not rule out the possibility of signing the agreement in the future. "We are in the process, and, in our view, when there are preconditions, we will be ready to put our signature here (under the agreement. - Ed.)," she told a press conference on the results of the German-Polish intergovernmental consultations in Berlin.

Merkel noted that the EU expects Kyiv to do certain steps, but did not specify which ones. "There are a number of challenges, but they can be overcome through dialogue," she said. The German government believes that the EU, including Berlin, will continue holding "close contact" with Ukraine.
