Energy and coal industry minister Yuri Boiko said that the price of gas, which Ukraine has started to purchase on the European spot market, is significantly lower than the price of Russian gas.
"Since the spring of this year, we have been organizing the gas supplies from European spot market in reverse mode. We have started this process. This gas is cheaper than that we get under contract with the Russian "Gazprom". We receive volumes under the contract. The contracted volumes will be increased in the following year," Boiko told reporter in the Cabinet, FoUm correspondent reports.
The minister did not answer how much cheaper the gas is, saying that it is "substantially cheaper".
"We buy the gas at the spot prices, plus transit. Tomorrow, this price can be changed. But in any case it will be cheaper than that we get under the contract with the Russian "Gazprom," he said.
