The NGOs have succeeded in improving the situation in the media during the election campaign, executive director of the Institute of Mass Information Victoria Syumar said during "Elections 2012: public opinion" marathon, ForUm correspondent reports.

The expert reminded that the Vidrodzhennya foundation initiated the memorandum "Open news for fair elections", in accordance with which the NGOs shall conduct independent monitoring over television news for access of key political players to broadcast, and TV channels shall take into account expert opinions and alter the content.

The specialist noted that the quality and balance of news significantly improved on some channels due to the memorandum. "General monitoring results will be released on October 31," Syumar said.
She added that the recent results of the parties and blocs in elections are directly correlated with the level of their representation in the media. "Therefore, the responsibility of the media for the elections’ results is extremely high," she concluded.
