Ukraine plans continuing to participate in both the current operations and the future NATO missions in Afghanistan, chief of general staff - commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Volodymyr Zamana said during the meeting with commander of the International Security Assistance Force in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, General John Allen in the course of visit to Afghanistan, the Defense Ministry press service informs.

The chief of staff said that currently, the Afghan national security forces will play the main role in providing security in Afghanistan.

"Ukraine is fully aware of that the security situation in Afghanistan affects the security of the region and the world. Therefore, our position remains unchanged - we will continue participating in both the current operations and the future NATO missions in the country," he stressed.

Zamana mentioned that the consultations with the Polish, Lithuanian and German parties are holding now on possible formats of participation of Ukrainian personnel in the future NATO missions in Afghanistan since 2014.

"We are open to discuss the full range of issues," he said.

During his working visit to Afghanistan, the chief of general staff also reviewed the conditions and activities of Ukrainian personnel performing tasks within the International Security Assistance Force.
