Verkhovna Rada allocated money of the EBRD loan (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development) for construction of the second start metro area in Dnepropetrovsk on the non-repayable terms. 253 MPs voted in favor of such decision, ForUm correspondent reports.
The introduction of the second start area of the Dnipropetrovsk subway will solve the main problem of the city on the provision of increase in passenger turnover, the organization of fast and reliable transport between the peripheral residential areas and the city center.
Accordingly, a project "Completion of subway construction in Dnipropetrovsk" was initiated and developed together with EBRD, under which Ukraine will attract 152 million euro to the state budget to finance this project.
Current version of the law of Ukraine "On the state budget of Ukraine for 2012" stipulates that the funds will be provided for the municipal enterprise "Dnipropetrovsk metro" as a loan (on conditions of repayment).
But due to the limited financial resources, the municipal enterprise "Dnipropetrovsk metro" appealed to the government of Ukraine to consider a possibility to grant the EBRD loan on the non-repayable terms. In this case, the Dnipropetrovsk city council will compensate expenditures of the state budget for maintenance of the EBRD loan.
