Ukraine is deeply concerned about the international community on the escalation of violence in Syria, President Viktor Yanukovych said during his speech at the plenary meeting of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly, ForUm learned from the President’s press service.

"We call on all involved parties to make maximum effort to resolve the conflict on the basis of respect for the UN Charter and universally recognized principles of international law," he stressed.

Yanukovych noted that the people of Ukraine have never been and will not be indifferent to human suffering.

The head of state stressed that in this case we talk not about the one time action, but about the readiness of Ukraine to use its ability to protect the civilian population in the hot spots. "That's why this year, during the worsening of situation in Syria, we immediately evacuated the first group of Ukrainian and Polish citizens who expressed a desire to return home from this country," he added.

"I am convinced that joint efforts with global community will help to ensure the safety of the Syrian population. I believe in the international solidarity in this issue," he said.
