The United Nations should remain the center of international efforts to strengthen the rule of law, meanwhile relevant regional organizations should continue performing their important role, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said at the plenary meeting of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly, President’s press office informs.

"For Ukraine, such regional center is the Council of Europe, the Venice Commission in particular, the close cooperation with which helps us to steadily move towards reforming in the field of rule of law thus realizing our European integration aspirations," he said.

Yanukovych stressed that the work of the Constitutional Assembly, established in Ukraine to find a national consensus on the provisions of the Basic Law, will contribute to the reform process.
"We study and will take into account the best practices of other countries in the course of constitutional development," he said.

The President also mentioned that Ukraine welcomes the successful completion of the high-level meeting devoted to the rule of law at national and international levels, held in New York on September 24. "At this event, the Ukrainian party declared its political commitments, which we will meet consistently," Yanukovych said.
