President Viktor Yanukovych is confident that the upcoming parliamentary election will restore public confidence in authorities.

"The parliamentary election of 2012 should substantially increase the confidence of our citizens in the Parliament and in the government as a whole through the open democratic election process," he said at the Council of Regions meeting on September 19, ForUm correspondent reports.
Yanukovych also expressed hope that the new parliament will be an effective source of legislation and will help Ukraine to upgrade.

In addition, the President urged the local authorities to prevent pressure on the media at any level.
"I would ask you to pay attention to violations in sensitive areas, such as obstructing the work of journalists and the media. If you receive such complaints, you need respond quickly and do not allow for any level of pressure on the media," he said.
