The Verkhovna Rada in the first reading passed the bill which proposes to introduce criminal liability in the form of deprivation of liberty for a term from three to seven years for counterfeiting of documentary stamps.

246 MPs voted in favor of the adoption of the bill on amendments to the Criminal Code on strengthening the penalties for counterfeiting of documentary stamps.

The bill proposes to equate the forgery and use of forged documentary stamps to forging national currency of Ukraine and to establish criminal liability in the form of deprivation of liberty for a term from three to seven years.

"The manufacture, possession, acquisition, transport, transfer, import to Ukraine with intent to sale; sales and marketing of illegally manufactured, obtained or counterfeited documentary stamps, holographic security elements, fake currency of Ukraine in the form of banknotes and metal coins, foreign exchange currency, government securities or state lottery tickets shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term from three to seven years," the wording of the bill says.
