In August, 2012, consumer prices in Ukraine decreased compared to the previous month by 0.3%, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine reported.

Deflation in the consumer market in Ukraine was registered during the last four months. In April, according to the State Statistics Service, the prices did not change, and in May and June, the deflation amounted to 0.3% due to the seasonal decline in agricultural prices.

In August of 2011, the deflation was 0.4%, in the same month of 2010, the prices rose by 8.9%, and the results of the last eight months showed that the price growth amounted to 4.1%.

According to the State Statistics Service, the main price reduction in August happened with vegetables - by 7.9% and fruits - by 6.7%.

In the last month, the decline in the price of fish and fish products was registered by 0.3%, cheese by 0.4%, oil by 0.5%. In total, according to the State Statistics, the price of food and non-alcoholic beverages in August fell to the previous month by 0.5% and over the last 12 months by 2.3%.

The state budget of Ukraine for 2012 was calculated based on the government's inflation forecast of 7.9%.

In April, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) improved the inflation forecast in Ukraine from 8.5% to 7.9% and reported later on the revision of the forecast to 7%. Inflation in 2013 is expected to reach 5.9%.

According to the forecasts of Standard & Poor's, inflation in Ukraine in 2012 will amount to 6%.
