Radioactive waste to be managed by State Agency on the Exclusion Zone Management
The Cabinet transferred the functions of radioactive waste management from the Emergencies Ministry to the State Agency of Ukraine on the Exclusion Zone Management.

The relevant resolution was adopted on August 22.

This decree amended the decree № 480 of the Cabinet of 29 April 1996, according to which the functions of radioactive waste management will be performed by the State Agency on the Exclusion Zone Management.

The main change relates to paragraph 1, which names the department to manage the radioactive waste.

Previously it was the Emergencies Ministry.

The State Agency on the Exclusion Zone Management is the central body of the executive power, the activities of which are directed and coordinated by the Cabinet through the Emergencies Ministry.

The State Agency on the Exclusion Zone Management is part of the executive authorities and ensure the implementation of state policy in the control over zone of exclusion and unconditional resettlement area, overcoming the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster, the decommissioning of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and converting the Shelter object into an ecologically safe system.
