For the last two years, about 300 secondary general schools were closed in Ukraine, minister of education and science, youth and sports Dmytro Tabachnyk told a briefing in Kharkiv.

He stressed that in all cases of school closure, a legal procedure was observed. At the same time, Tabachnyk said that after September 10, he will be able to say how many schools to be closed this year.

"For two years of Tymoshenko’s government, 650 schools were closed. For two and a half years of the government of Azarov, less than 300 schools have been closed. But in each case the procedure was observed, and everything was verified by the Ministry and the Prosecutor's Office. This year, I can report after September 10," Tabachnyk said.

The minister noted that under the law, several schools can be combined in educational districts with basic institution. According to him, it will optimize the expenses on secondary education and create learning centers with proper material and technical basis.
