Leader of the social movement "Ukrainian Choice" Viktor Medvedchuk commented on the decision of the Odessa City Council to grant Russian the status of regional language.

"It was the beginning of implementation of the new law on languages. As you can see, everything goes calm and without tragedies," Medvedchuk expressed his opinion.

In addition, the politician expressed a hope that the rest regions of the country will also take such decisions easy and without unnecessary incident: "If it goes on in the same way, we can get rid of the serious state issue, which has been distracting the society from solutions of more important problems for years."

"When the process of regional recognition of the Russian language is finished, the time passes, people see the result and do not oppose both languages, then we will come closer to grant finally Russian the status of the second state language," Viktor Medvedchuk said.
