In Ukraine, the procedures of registration of residence and drawing-up of passports of Ukrainian citizens were simplified, ForUm learned from the State Migration Service press office.

"Since August 1, the subdivisions of the State Migration Service of Ukraine have started to issue passports to citizens of Ukraine, register place of residence of individuals, as well as perform other functions defined by the law of Ukraine on the citizenship and immigration (earlier these functions were performed by the Interior Ministry departments).

Simultaneously with the transfer of these functions from the Internal Ministry to the State Migration Service, a significant simplification of procedures for the registration of residence of individuals and drawing-up of passports of citizens of Ukraine were introduced.

Now, registration and deregistration are performed in one place and on the same day a person applies to a registration body.
In addition, the range of grounds for deregistration was greatly expanded. If earlier a person needed a statement or a court decision, today deregistration may be performed in case of termination of housing or staying on the territory of Ukraine of foreigners and stateless persons.

The procedure for drawing-up a passport was also changed. Now the documents for drawing-up a passport of citizen of Ukraine are submitted directly to the territorial subdivisions of the State Migration Service, not to the housing offices, as it was before.
