During January-July, the customs officers found more than two thousand cases of illicit tobacco products trafficking and confiscated 41 million pieces amounting to about 13 million USD, ForUm learned from the State Customs Service press service.
In most of cases, Ukraine is a country of sending or destination, not of origin of illegally transported tobacco products. The tobacco products of Belarusian, Moldovan and Russian production are most often used for trafficking, as they are considerably cheaper than domestic products.
"The greatest activity associated with the illegal movement of tobacco products is observed on the Ukrainian-Romanian, Ukrainian-Moldovan, Ukrainian-Polish, Ukrainian-Russian and Ukrainian-Belarusian border areas," the report says.
