Ukraine has already harvested 25 million tons of grain, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said during the Cabinet’s meeting, ForUm correspondent reports.

"Nearly 25 million tons of grain have been already harvested. Despite the abnormal winter and summer weather conditions, the crop of wheat and barley is lower only than the last year's record crop. This year have been harvested 23.4 quintals of rye per hectare against last year's 23 quintals per hectare, 22 quintals of rape per hectare against last year's 17 quintals per hectare and 22 quintals of oats per hectare against last year's 18 quintals per hectare," he said.

In his view, this testifies to the fact that Ukraine has raised the level of agricultural technology and provides sufficient logistical support for field works. "The greatest amount of grain has been harvested in Vinnytsia region - nearly 2 million tons and in Kharkiv region- more than 1.7 million tons. More than 1 million tons of grain have been harvested in 12 regions of Ukraine. I want to emphasize that 90% is a high quality food grain," the PM said.

He also congratulated the farmers, who could not only save the crop, but also to "improve the quality of grain and get good revenue, despite the poor conditions."

In addition, according to him, the Agriculture Ministry confirmed the forecast for more than 45 million tons of grain of this year's harvest. "Given the record of transitional remnants, grain offer in the market will amount to 58 million tons. The domestic consumption needs will amount to 28 million tons," Azarov said.
