The Constitution stipulates that a person with outstanding conviction has no right to take part in the elections, justice minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Lavrynovych said before the Cabinet’s meeting, ForUm correspondent reports.

"Under the Constitution, a person who has outstanding conviction cannot be registered as a President or MP candidate. In world practice there are cases where there is a gradation according to the severity of the crime," he said.

However, according to the minister, such procedure is not possible in Ukraine.

"In Ukraine it is determined at the level of the Constitution. It is impossible to change the law," Lavrynovych summed up.
