MP from the Party of Regions faction Vadym Kolesnichenko said that he would appeal to the Constitutional Assembly and insist on granting the Russian language with the status of the second state language, ForUm learned from the press service of the Party of Regions.

"The Constitutional Assembly started working yesterday. It was stated that the most important issue of the new Constitution is to support and protect citizen's rights, including the right to their native language," Kolesnichenko stressed.

He also said that the Party of Regions insists on two official languages in Ukraine. "During the Constitutional Assembly meetings we will press to ensure that the new Constitution includes a norm on two official languages in Ukraine, Ukrainian and Russian," the politician said.

"Ukraine is a multinational state, where the human rights will be protected. And the Party of Regions will do everything to make our country stable," the deputy of the Party of Regions concluded.

As ForUm reported previously, on June 5 Verkhovna Rada adopted the bill № 9073 "On the principles of the state language policy" in its first reading.
