The Parliament of Ukraine excluded from consideration the bill on requiring the Internet providers to restrict access to Web sites or their parts defined by the National Commission on Morality as erotic. 233 MPs with 226 minimum required voted in favor of such decision.

According to the Committee of Parliament on freedom of expression and information, the bill on amending the Law of Ukraine on protection of public morality is a censorship-oriented and hence the committee recommended excluding it from consideration as a document that does not comply with modern international practice and international standards.

In addition, the Committee considers that this legislative initiative is incorrect due to the fact that, in effort to protect the moral, the bill creates the conditions for the pressure on the media, the introduction of censorship, restricts the constitutional right of citizens to freedom of expression and information, creates new opportunities for corruption and increases the cost of the state budget.

As a reminder, on October 18, 2011, the Parliament of Ukraine tried to oblige the Internet providers to restrict access to Web sites or their parts defined by the National Commission on Morality as erotic.
