This morning, military aircraft SU-27 and AN-26 landed in Donetsk airport to enhance the air policing for the period of the European Football Championship 2012 finals.
"The purpose of arrival is to show once again that the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are ready for protection of cities hosting Euro 2012. The Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have started to fulfill combat duty on covering cities hosting Euro 2012. The Air Forces in the cooperation with the Land Forces, the Security Service of Ukraine and others services strengthened the watch in accordance with the inter-agency plan," the first deputy head of the Aviation Command of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Major-General Ihor Yanushevych said.
According to Yanushevych, today in Donetsk “we have made a flight to organize and test the interaction with the civil aviation sector, landing on a civil airdrome, the actions in case of force majeure."
Today, Donetsk will host the Europe Football Championship Group D match between the national teams of France and England. The match will be held at 7 p.m. Kyiv time.
