Ukraine's course towards European integration remains unchanged and we are working to bring national legislation to European standards, President Viktor Yanukovych said in an interview for the program "Evenings with Vitaliy Korotych", ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

"Currently, when it comes to European integration, we say that first of all it is our homework. We have to bring our legal and regulatory framework in line with European standards, and we are interested in that," he said.

The President stressed the importance of partnership relations between Ukraine and the EU. "We are following the course that we have chosen with Europe. We have the law on domestic and foreign policy, which has it defined. Currently, we would like to see Europe change its tone of communicating with us as if with schoolchildren. We are partners and we are ready to build our relations as partners," he said.

The President said that Ukraine remains committed to the norms and principles followed by the European Union, such as the rule of law and high democratic standards. He also emphasized the importance of harmonizing Ukraine’s foreign trade legislation with that of the European Union, as required by the WTO. “This will allow us to improve the movement of capital, goods, investments, labor... We are interested in that," he said.

Viktor Yanukovych also said that just as the EU, Ukraine is eager to develop relations with other countries, such as the US, Russia, other economic growth centers.
