Without Kharkiv agreements Ukraine would have faced the collapse of balance of payment, foreign minister of Ukraine Konstantyn Hryshchenko told a briefing in the Cabinet, ForUm correspondent reported.
"Without that discount the situation in economy would have been catastrophic. The contracts signed in 2009 hurt economy so badly, that even the discount of Kharkiv agreements does not solve the problem, but without it we would not have had any balance of payment and balance in economy," the minister said.
As reported, on April 21, 2010 Presidents Yanukovych and Medvedev agreed on 30% gas price discount in exchange for prolongation of stationing term of Russian Black Sea Fleet for 25 years. Ukraine got 100 dollars discount for every thousand cu m of gas, purchased from Russia.
