By the initiative of interior minister of Ukraine Vitaly Zakharchenko the National Security and Defense Council will consider installation of video surveillance system in public places, ForUm learned from the Interior Ministry press office.

In his turn, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has already ordered the Kyiv city state administration to work out the issue of video surveillance in public places and in places of mass events, first of all in the central part of the capital.

"Video surveillance system, used in US and the EU, helps to respond better to any kind of violations and to capture criminals. The world practice proves that the very presence of the video surveillance system is a constraining factor for violators, even if there is no police official around. With video surveillance system our citizens will feel secure in the streets," the statement says.

According to the Interior Ministry, the usage of video surveillance system will reduce the number of police officials in the streets, and at the same time will make their work more efficient.
