Ukraine is consistently moving through deep modernization and national economy development, President Viktor Yanukovych said in a speech at today’s Victory Day festivities at the Independence Square in Kyiv, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

"We have stepped on a difficult road of modernization of Ukraine. We are building a new state, where there is no place for corruption or officials’ arbitrariness," he said.

The President stressed that it also implies creating a new economic base to reduce poverty and stimulate innovation.

"We are putting the new social initiatives into practice, new initiatives to develop the real economy," Viktor Yanukovych said and added that new social initiatives are aimed at improving the quality of people’s lives and restoring social justice.

"While overcoming the global economic crisis challenges, we continue raising the standards and quality of life. The new social initiatives are aimed at restoring social justice," he said.

"Our priority is to ensure worthy life to pensioners, create jobs for young people, protect the rights of mothers and children," said Viktor Yanukovych.
The Ukrainian government is also consistent in upholding democratic values, the President said. "Ukraine is valued in the world as an example of peaceful coexistence of many ethnic groups and different creeds," he said.
