The defense of the ex-minister of the interior are asking the Court of Appeals of Kyiv to justify him due to the fact that the state was compensated the full amount of damages caused by Yuriy Lutsenko and his driver Leonid Prystupliuk, the defendant's lawyer, Oleksandr Bahanets, said during the trial, UKRINFORM reports.

"The state, represented by the ministry of interior, was fully reimbursed funds in the amount of UAH 938,107.75, and the Pension Fund department in the city of Kyiv in the amount of UAH 71,342.94, which, according to the judgment of the Pechersky district court, were recognized material losses in this criminal case. At present there are no grounds for meeting the civil action against Yuriy Vitaliyovych Lutsenko," the lawyer said.

He also reminded that on April 26, interior ministry veterans transferred to the ministry's account UAH 644,216.52, which was spent to celebrate the Police Day in 2008-2009. In addition, Bahanets said that the ex-minister's driver, Leonid Prystupliuk, transferred UAH 293,000 to the ministry's account and UAH 71,000 to the account of the Pension Fund department in Kyiv. UAH 130,000 was transferred for the one-room apartment.

At the same time, the lawyer is asking the court to take into account the state of Yuriy Lutsenko's health. In particular, he has bowel disease, liver cirrhosis and viral hepatitis.

As reported, former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko is accused of embezzlement and abuse of power, in particular, illegal employment of his driver at the interior ministry and violations involved in granting him an apartment and pension accrual.

On February 27, 2012, Kyiv's Pecherskyi district court sentenced the former head of the interior to four-year imprisonment with confiscation of property and disqualification to hold public offices for 3 years after release from prison.
