President Viktor Yanukovych has signed the Decree “On the Approval of the Annual National Program of Ukraine-NATO Cooperation for 2012,” ForUm learned from the presidential press office.
"The decree was signed in order to implement the provisions of the law on the principles of domestic and foreign policy, particularly with regard to the continuation of constructive partnership with NATO on all issues of mutual interest, as well as the implementation of the decisions of the Ukraine-NATO Commission, which were taken at its meetings in Bucharest on April 4, 2008 and in Brussels on December 3, 2008," reads the statement.
In accordance with the Decree, the Government is to prepare and adopt in a month term a set of measures to implement the Annual National Program, and to provide the coordination of Ministries and agencies in the process of its implementation.
According to a presidential advisor and the head of the main department for international relations at the Presidential Administration, Andriy Honcharuk, the decree signed by the head of state contains a provision on key areas of Ukraine's cooperation with NATO in the political, economic, defense, military, resource, security and legal spheres.
Honcharuk said that the national program of Ukraine-NATO cooperation for 2012 had been prepared taking into account Ukraine's non-aligned status, the need to continue the implementation of the objectives of national programs of cooperation with NATO in previous years, as well as taking into account the interest in the further use of the necessary assistance from the alliance.
"The implementation of the annual national program of NATO-Ukraine cooperation in 2012 will be an important step in the further advancement of the reforms initiated by the Ukrainian president, aimed at the achievement by our state of the leading standards of economic and social development, and the proper level of national security and defense," Honcharuk said, UKRINFORM reports.
