Former Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko has no illnesses that pose a threat to his life, the chief doctor of Kyiv City Hospital of Emergency Care, Oleksandr Tkachenko, has said.

"The patient's condition is satisfactory. There are no illnesses that pose a threat to Lutsenko's life. Of course, he has an illness that requires control," reads the statement, UKRINFORM reports.

According to Tkachenko, the former minister's condition is much better than a year ago. "Comparing the patient's condition with last year, in particular, with May 2011, his condition is now much better," he said.

The wife of the former interior minister, Iryna Lutsenko, in turn, said that in prison her husband had been infected with hepatitis during a blood transfusion.
