Celebration of the 200th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko’s birth should consolidate the Ukrainian society, President Viktor Yanukovych said at today’s meeting of the Public Humanitarian Council.

"We need to update the information on all Taras Shevchenko monuments, museums, and signs in the world and in Ukraine, restore and bring them in order. This work is already doing on. It is certainly very hard and should involve all Ukrainian communities in the world and active citizens in Ukraine," he said.

Viktor Yanukovych drew particular attention to the importance of active involvement of business in preparing for the celebration. "We should think of using the mechanisms of public-private partnership where the state has limited capability. There is such initiative in the big business..." he said.

The President also proposed initiating the National Humanitarian Project "Shevchenko Readings.” "These readings could become a dialogue platform that takes place in the leading scientific and educational institutions, consolidating the society, promoting mutual understanding, and encouraging the convergence of positions of the government and classical scholars," said Viktor Yanukovych.
