Starting from May 1, 2012, the addition to pensions for war veterans will increase by 30-50%, President Viktor Yanukovych said at the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Ukrainian Veterans’ Organization, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

"It is time to raise payments to veterans, bring their pensions to modern level that will allow us to increase them and strengthen social protection of pensioners, military service and war veterans, and families of the deciesed war veterans with disabilities. A tangible shift in overcoming the injustice towards these distinguished people will begin in May," he said.

According to the President, war veterans with disabilities will also receive about two thousand hryvnyas of one-time support on May 1, and militry retirees will get the increas in pension of 184 hryvnyas starting from July 1.

"We will continue strengthening social protection of war and labor veterans, and military retirees in following years’ state budgets," said Viktor Yanukovych.

The President informed that the Government had already received several instructions regarding the regulation of prices for medicines, reimbursement of lost savings, prrovision of prosthetic products and wheelchairs to persons with disabilities, etc.

"The current economic performance gives us reason to say that there are funds to implement new social initiatives. I am convinced that step by step, based on the real economic growth, we will be able to achieve the desired result, and provide decent living conditions to older people," he said.
